I have a couple of T/C Hawken percussion rifles with 15/16" barrels and would like to find a couple of drop in 20 gauge barrels to hunt birds.

Any suggestions?

Mike

Hi Wingnut,

Green Mountain makes excellent replacement barrels for the T/C:

Good luck with it -

Hi again,

Was just looking at the link I sent you, didn't realize they don't have a 20-gauge in 15/16". They do have a .54 smoothbore, might be okay for birds.

Agree...be surprised if you can find a .20ga in a 15/16".
I've got GM's .54 & .62 can smoothbore barrels in Flint, and while .54cal/.28ga sounds like a light-weight just forget everything you knew about modern shot gunning as far as comparing it to them.

GM's .54cal barrel is a big, thick, strong one and it easily takes larger loads than the typical .28ga modern thin wall barreled shotgun does...works great for small game at 25yds.
(for reference, skeet targets are 21 yards away)

The alternative would be to buy a Hawken .54cal stock (takes the 1" barrel) then the GM 1" Hawken drop-in would fit that fine.
