After picking your brains on how to anchor a cheeckpiece inlay ive decided to solder a nail to the back.

I have some acid core solder, would this work?

Would plain old beeswax work for flux?

Im pretty crude at soldering, any tips on technique?

Thanks guys

Boone

ps. rifle is coming along, will finish staining stock and browning the metal this weekend. Hope to unveil it for ya'll maybe next week.

It really needs a high temp silver braze, but if the nail has a wide head you may get by with soft solder. Why not do it the old way and just use small tacks to hold it in? If you have inletted the inlay you are going to have a hard time getting that nail in the right position so that the inlay seats in it's bed.

What Wick said  . Also, be sure to have that inlay in the stock (to stay) before you stain the stock (actually before you whisker it). It likely won't fit afterwards.

Small brads driven into slighty countersunk holes, peened a little before driving them in, and dressed down with file and sandpaper should make a neat job and be totally proper. Use brass on brass or steel on silver and you'll be OK. Or maybe someone makes some German Silver brads.
