This is a picture of my patch cutting knife at the beggining, it stared life as a pair of grass cutting
shears (see top item, one blade) the paper piece is my template sketch and the bottom is the
knife blank (cut out of the other half of the shears)with some white oak handles glued on

This picture is the finished knife with a blued blade and steel pins with copper sleeves. I stained it with
the blueing chemicals and walnut stain and sealed it with linseed oil. It'll shave the hair off your arm.

This is my camp minus my blankets.

My candle lantern made of white oak top and bottom pieces and hickory
uprites and door. I used wooden nails, leather hinges and closure and my
standard walnut stain and linseed oilseal. The heat deflector is aged copper
and the handle is aged coat hanger wire.

A sewing kit I made

My .50cal LPG finished in brown and yep you guessed it walnut and Linseed oil.

very nice. Great pics. Thanks for sharing them.

Over the years I have seen several wood candle lanterns go up in flames and take a tent with them.

:hatsoff: Great looking gear. I have a few grass cutters laying around, never would of thought of that.

Great lookin collection you have there. My eyes got especially hung up on that patch knife. I really like the finger hook instead a traditional hilt! Great idea!! :hatsoff:

I haven't heard about tents burning down yet but that makes perfect sense, what with wood being flamable and all. I have burned several candles in it from start to finish without incident so far, so maybe mine is of better construction quality....yeah thats it :winking: but in all seriousness, I will definately be mindful of where I place it from now on. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks to one and all for the responses, I too am pleased with the patch knife. Maybe I will make some more and use them as blanket prizes. I guess I need to figure out a mark to put on em.

Fanatastic stuff Oldsarge (esp.that knife  )It's always great to see what people can make with their own two hands, a little ingenuity and a dash of inspiration--all the best-zodd

For a mark, just try your old chevrons. Easy to make and if your name is true, you know what they look like.
