The Service Rifle Shooters Mantra:
Alignment [align the sights so the top of the front post on your m1/m14/m16 is in the middle of the rear aperture]
Focus [on the top of the front sight post while maintaining alignment]
Aim [center mass, 6:00 o'clock, flat tire, deep six, frame, just be consistent. Need I mention maintaining alignment and focus?]
Smooth [don't pull the trigger- smoothly release the shot]
Follow [follow through, stay with the gun, however you want to put it, maintaining hand grips pressures, head position and alignment until you come back to the target]
These same principles apply to ML with more primitive sights. Align top of post with top of sighting notch in rear sight, centered in the notch windage wise. Many rear sights need a wider rear notch- need to have about half a front post width of daylight on each side. Adjust for distance by sinking or elevating top of post relative to top of rear sight notch.
White Fox [Distinguished, Presidents Hundred, more Daniel Boone medals than I can count, etc. Also coaching Jrs since 1985- have taken kids from calling it a gun to Expert class in one season.]
