I am having an Alexander Henry rifle built that will use 1/4x28 MUSKET CAP nipples. When I attempted to reach Bloomquist Machine, I was unable to do so. My subsequent search for such nipples came up zero. The closest match was a #11 nipple by Buffalo Arms.

Please identify a source for 1/4x28 platinum-lined musket cap nipples.

If my memory serves me correctly, I remember a guy that tried that and the it did not work much better than regular steel ones.

A cobalt bearing alloy such as Hastelloy, Waspaloy, Inconel, Haynes Alloy 25 (L605) or HA-188 will be far superior to pure Titanium or any Titanium alloy.

Unfortunately, finding any of these in small quantities is difficult and expensive. They also are extremely hard to machine.

If you come across an old turbine wheel from a gas turbine or jet engine it may be made from one of these alloys.

Inconnel is hard to machine. But a mixture of white lead ( I know it is toxic but so are the lead balls we handle )and kerosene makes an excellant coumpound for a cutting oil that really helps. We machined a lot of it at a machine shop where I worked in the sixties doing subcontract work for Goodyear areospace. Yea white lead for rocket science! :idunno:

The one and the same. In march will be the 26th long range match that Rick has hosted. I and my family will be in attendance. This will be my boys (ages 14 and 17) first time at shoot long range, I have only been shooting long range for 5 years or so and love it.

I am busy trying to get a Rigby style rifle completed and hope to shoot it at Oakridge.

some of the parts are the same as their kit, the barrel is a badger with Rigby flats cut in. The stock is from scratch.

I have 4 long range ML's. Alex Henry from Don Brown, box lock from Pete Allen, the rigby I am working on and another alex henry that is in pieces and parts.

I have 2 of the box lock, one long range with a badger barrel, the other was my attempt at the perfect hunting rifle. Fast twist DeHaas barrel in .54. I dont use the .54 anymore it seems.

OMG, you are going to make it this year! We are going to Pensacola FL for spring break, swinging through Oak Ridge on the way home to shoot.

This will be my 14 and 17 year old boys first attempt at shooting 200, 300, 600 and 1,000 yards. I hope to have my new Rigby rifle done by then. Just waiting for a front sight and the barrel should be done rust bluing tonight. Boiling as I type this morning.
