Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their sources for bark tanned leather or any leather that you use to make a hunting bag. I'd like to try to make my own - having made arrow quivers in the past.

What weight leather is most common for hunting bags?

The names of any sources would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

"Wickett and Craig"...get a russet veg tan tooling leather side...have it split down to 3 oz for the bags...consider getting a second side split down to 6 oz for the straps...they recently were having an over stock sale for $90 per side...and they split it free...its American tanned leather, and the quality is always consistently the best every time I order. One side will make lots of bags and will last you a while.

every now and then there is a man on e-bay that will sell it and brain tanned also

I pick up leather wherever I can ,might be old coats,I come across deerhides from time to time.If you dont mind them make your pouch lined with cloth of some kind then you can use old leather coats.

I've made alot of leather goods, I made my own shootin bag, about 4 or so of them, my own leggins, and my own moccassins. I've also made several knife and tomahawk sheaths.
I buy my leather from Kentucky Leather and Hides

I second KY Leather and Hide. Tandy Leather Co is also a good source and one can set up a business account with them pretty easy.
Good luck!
