Not AZ but close! The Gila Free Trappers have a Rendezvous in March. Called Moon of the Crow. Its small but a lot of fun!! It's over near Silver City New Mexico. Anyone can PM me and I'll tell you who to get in touch with.

I'm in Vail and looking for a shooting partner since my brother moved to Ohio last September. Been going down to the tumacacori mountains since 2003. There's a huge field we would camp at and shoot all weekend.

Hi Mike, I do most of my shooting at the pima county range near the fairgrounds. I don't have much time on the weekends, but i'd like to hear about what you do. Let me know, Feamir

I shoot with the Old Pueblo Muzzle loaders at the Three Points Rifle Range on the third Sunday of the month, and sometimes with the Montezuma Muzzle Loaders on the second Saturday of the month at Hog Canyon in Sera Vista. I also attend various rendezvous through out the year. Always looking for fellow shooters from the Tucson area.

I have thought about checking out that range. I have never joined a club or anything just been shooting at this field. It's about 200 yards long and 50 yards wide. Three huge mesquite trees on one end to set up under. Makes a nice shooting range. About 5 miles south of Arivaca ranch in Jalisco canyon.

Sorry John did not receive your message. Would like that contact info though. I'm interested in finding out where they have their shoots down by Sonoita. That's not that far from where I am. Thanks

There's an older fellow who brings his vehicle into the shop I work at that was telling me about the Old Pueblo Muzzleloaders. I think he helped start the club many years ago. Ray Knight i think his name is.

Hi mike, The pima county range is the best use of tax payer dollars I have seen in awhile. No club to join, costs $8.00 to shoot all day. The range is from 5 yards out to 200. It is new, clean, safe and well run. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and shooters themselves. I have met lots of good people on the line, lots of BP shooters. They are open 8-12 on Thursday and Friday, 8-1 on the weekends. They have earlier hours in the summer, not sure when that starts. Check out their website http://webcms.pima.gov/government/natural_resources_parks_and_recreation/shooting_sports/. Your shooting spot sounds nice, if my weekends open up I will let you know.

feamir,
It looks like there are 3 Pima County ranges. Which one is the best? The south side of Tucson would work best for me.

Hi John,
The Pima county range I use the most is the one on Harrison road, right near the fairgrounds (southern most location). I think the county made a great decision to put a range there. It's near all the other loud stuff, Race tracks, concert venue, and model airplane field. Hopefully that will prevent bad things from happening like what happened to Tucson Rod and Gun range.

I have not been to the Kinney road range since the repairs were concluded, I believe it used to be the boy scout range. It was (at the time of my last visit) limited to 100 yards, plenty long for most of my BP shooting.

I have no desire to drive out to Ajo to shoot, way too far. If I'm going to drive that far I'd drive to 3 points (Tucson rifle club), silhouette shooting is fun!

Check out the range and have some fun, Feamir

The MML club has their fall, winter, and spring monthly shoots in Hog Canyon and you do not need a permit. You can not shoot on NF land when the forest is closed for fire danger as it is now.

OK thanks for the info. I've been looking for a closer place to home to shoot instead of where I use to go which was south of arivaca and meant staying overnight.

I'm over here in Yuma and there is a club of sorts. The have shoots in the winter here. Start in Sept or Oct I think, most of the members are snowbirds. I've tried contacting the locals a couple of time without much success. Far as I know nothing organized during the summer months from about late March early April to Sept. or so. I do wish they were more active, they don't seem to want to attract membership. Just a feeling I have.

A friend or two of mine and I go out every Sunday and shoot all kinds of guns early in the mornings during the summer in the desert. I'm the only one with black powder guns. We go early during the summer to beat the heat, usually done by nine thirty or ten. Anybody here near Yuma Az?

I'm in Vail about 20 miles s.e. of Tucson. I know that's not really close to Yuma though. I don't recall seeing anyone else on here from Yuma except you mushka. But I could be mistaken on that.

The NMLRA's July, 2019 edition of MuzzleBlasts says:

Hope this helps. :)
