Well I needed a break from the engraving game, so I thought I'd try an idea I had out.... didn't quite work though. I had thought I could get the lines matched up, but I didn't want to overdo them on the plug (like I did on the band!) and I had hoped to accentuate the overhang further up the plug. and (just to pile on the excuses!  ) I just got a new batch of AF and it doesn't seem to be as strong - or at least this horn didn't react as well to it as I would have liked.
either way. I used walnut for the plug, (I didn't measure it) but it has AF for color followed by a RIT bath to bring out the scratches/aging a bit.

Beautiful horn, no doubt. Anyone would be proud to own and wear.
However, that big antler tip is another thing. To my eye it looks like it doesn't belong. Too large and not matching.

That big antler tip is very correct for a southern applied tip powder horn, as Gus has nicely done here. __ Basically, it is just a matter of style from the eastern part of the country starting in the 18th Century.

Well, even though this thread is from December, Thanks for the input guys!
