Does anyone here used a spare cylinders for 1858 Remington.I am interested in how they work as far timing goes. Or any other problems. Thanks for any response.
Jim
I have two for my Pietta 1858, They came from Cabalas and They dropped right in with no fitting, Alot of it depends on what kinda 1858 you have, is it a Pietta, Uberti or one of the older reproductions. That's were the difference lies.
I bought a spare cylinder with my revolver from Cabelas 8 years ago and I am glad I did. I like to be able to keep on shooting after six rounds.
It's quick to swop out the cylinders. I did however have to grind out the slots with a dremel
to be able to use a straight line capper. I don't know if the design has been improved in eight years but I got tired of having to cap with my fingers
When I shoot cowboy action I find it easier to change cylinders between stages than two reload, the cylinders on my revolvers. That way I have.more time to help out with posse duties.
Uberti won't fit Pietta, and vice versa.
ASM and ASP are pretty much interchangeable, but won't fit Pietta or Uberti as drop-ins.
EIG, you're pretty much on your own
In our house we have about 20 different BP revovlers. In that collection we have 2 Uberti Remingtons, and 1 Pietta SS Remington. We have 1 Conversion cylinder for Uberti's(shoots .45 colt)and 3 other drop-in BP cylnders. Strang enough the Uberti drop ins fit into the SS Pietta Remington. We live frine all our bp pistols along with using them in Civil War reenacting. We bought a few of the cylinders from Dixie Gun Works who lists them as generic and states that some fitting and timing may be necessary. And states that some parts will also fit the Spiller & Burr, and Whitney. Check out the listing on pages 116-117 of thier catalog #161.
I have a spare cylinder for my '58 .44, oredered it along w/the pietta revolver stated it was made by pietta.
actually the spare I bought is a s/s, only 3$ more than the blued. maybe you should stick with cylinder made by same maker of your revolver
