A month ago I was contacted about making three matching pouch oil bottles, all with a little engraving, for a father and his sons.  The father was also a Marine and asked if I could engrave the Marine Corps insignia on the other side of his bottle.  Instead, I cast a tiny sterling silver insignia and mounted it on the opposite side from his initial.  I felt badly that it had taken me a month to finish these, so I took off work, just sat down and finished them on Veteran's Day.  When I looked up from my bench, it was dark.  I wanted to take a quick picture and send it to the man who commissioned these just to let him know that they were complete.  I usually take these kinds of pictures in subdued daylight, but had to take this one on the kitchen table and with bad lighting.  However, in getting ready to send the photo out I realized that this was a fine thing to have completed for a US Marine...on Veteran's Day.  (I think I need to make one for myself with a naval officer's insignia.)

All the best to all the veterans out there...and a quiet prayer for all of our shipmates and comrades-in-arms who didn't make it home.

Gorgeous work, Dave. I am sure that your customer and his sons will be overwhelmed. The Marine Corps Birthday is Nov. 10. Veteran's Day is Nov. 11. You did well. Semper Fi.

If that's photography done in bad light, stick with it, because it is a beautiful picture. But besides that, those are treasures that they should appreciate forever. A good Veteran's Day gift.
  :v
