Once it starts down the barrel I can't see it so I don't know is it went slonch wise or psygoggle,It isn't Rocket Surgery,, if it was what would we do and the Run and Gun events,
Only thing forsure,, powder before ball, after that step up too the line and send it..

Do you have any facts showing it doesn't happen? That would be just as good, wouldn't it?

Time for a scotch and an adult conversation.

This question has been coming up forever. I have really found no difference whether up or down. The advice I would give is to be consistent each time when loading; sprue up or sprue down. Just do it the same each time.

In my experience, I have found no difference. but, my Lee mold leaves almost no sprue to worry about and I tumble my newly cast balls in a rock tumbler to remove any last traces of a sprue. However, I did not always do it that way and before I started tumbling to remove the sprue mark, it just seemed to make no difference how I positioned my sprue mark. At the time that I did try to be consistent in positioning my sprue, I found that positioning it with the sprue up where I could see it made it easier to know exactly where the sprue was.

The big trouble with X-ray vision is most X-ray machines are great big things that use a lot of electrical power.

Getting something to wear around easily just about can't be done in this day and age.

It's been over 60 years since I last saw those wonderful "X-ray Vision Glasses" advertised on the back of a Comic Book and if you can find any of those glasses at an antique store they cost a fortune.

Friendship needs an X-Ray machine.

Ok. Back to topic ....

I put the flat sprue cut part of the ball down in my trade gun - against the flat lubed over powder wad before I push them both down the barrel.

BUT

In my rifle, I put the sprue up, round side wrapped by the patch.

Both methods seem to work for me for the different situations.

Ummm....Oh ya smoothbores are so inherently accurate that any minor discrepancy in how the sprue is located becomes immediately apparent on the target... :shocked2: ....... :haha:
