Finally made it to the woods today. Entered the woods about sun-up and 15 minutes later spotted my first squirrel. He was coming down a large cypress tree about 20 yards away. After the smoke cleared the squirrel was gone. I found him dead in a cluster of cypress knees at the base of the tree.
Hunting squirrels in the swamp I have to be a lot more patient than hunting in dryer woods. I have passed up good shots at squirrels if they were in trees in deep water. Dead squirrels sink and are hard to retrieve in black water.An hour later I got another gray and called it a day. It warmed up quick and so did the mosquitoes. Anyhow I had a blast.
