Ever since I moved from my Deep South native land I have yet to find a northerner that knows what a "possum on the half shell" is! A food of the Deep South.
I don’t hear many people these days referring to armadillos as that. I really like eating them but lately so much talk about them carrying leprosy that I have backed off of them. They have both white and dark meat.

i went outside the other day to take my hound dog for a walk. at the back of my yard my dog's hair bristled up and she began to bay something in the edge of the woods. i always carry, even at home. i pulled my 1911 and there was an armadillo, i shot him, then another! then another! then one ran by and i dropped him, four with 4 shots. the most i have ever saw at one time. i live in the lowcountry of SC,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

City squirrels are like thugs…they live a thug-life.

I have a couple places to hunt them, but you guys in the south….

There could be exceptions to the rule (I've seen a 45 cal with a 1" barrel) but the usual measurements I've noticed are 45s: 13/16", 7/8" or 15/16" across the flats. The 50s are 15/16", 1" or 1 1/8". The smaller calibers seem to be 3/4", 13/16" and 7/8". And then there are the swamped barrels.

Just my two cents!

Walt
Exceptions to every rule I reckon. My .40 is 15/16ths across the flat.

In the 1950's , ya could always tell who ate groundhogs on a regular basis . There were groundhog skinning boards nailed to a tree or building behind the house. When times got tough , groundhogs and biscuits w/gravy tasted mighty good to fill in until the regular hunting season started. Oops , don,t want to exclude the elderberry , or black berry Jelly.
