Seeing you mentioned deer hunting, it all depends on how you hunt deer as to which and how many rifles you use....and the number of rifles you own.
The rifle chosen should be of a caliber suited to the game being hunted....I have 3 rifles that are each used for deer, elk and small game. I don't "collect" guns so I don't have the quandry of having to choose.
If you require a "fast mount", then there's nothing like a rifle that fits and comes up w/ the sights aligned. If sitting around all day, probably any old rifle will do.
Got rid of 2 racks of my builds....the reason was that most never got shot, so why have them? Like I said....I don't collect guns because to me they're "tools" that should be used. Others might enjoy amassing a large number of guns and that's OK because it kept me busy building "em.
Your wife's advice sounds pretty logical to me....Fred
