Ox Yoke revolver wads are very stiff.

Revolver wads from The Possibles Shop are very soft.

Which one is better, or doesn't it matter?

I've had the lubed, stiff wads puncture my paper targets at 25 yards a few times. Very disconcerting to say the least. Left me wondering how I got a flier so far out of the group until I examined the target and found the wads stuck in the cardboard backing.

I thought I either had to use a wad under the ball or Crisco on top of the ball to help prevent a chain fire? The Crisco is really messy and takes longer.

I prefer the lubed wad between the powder and ball. Lube over the ball is just too messy for me.

Nope. You just need to use a ball of the proper size. When you seat the ball, it should shave a nice even ring of lead off all the way around the ball. If it doesn't, go up one size in diameter, say from a .454" ball to a .457". Lube just keeps fouling soft and lets you keep shooting a little longer before cleaning. Proper sized caps firmly seated will prevent chainfires.

If you have your lube in some type of dispenser it is quick and easy. Being an old chef, I use a small pastry decorating bag. Someone has been marketing a homemade dispenser on ebay lately that looks like it would do the trick. An old cookie press that you screw the tips onto would work well also.

Use a ball of thicker lube under the lead ball. It wont have time to contaminate the powder. As you seat the lead ball it mashes the lube flat. Sort of like a wad.. Beeswax mixed with olive oil until you can roll it in a ball...........Or better yet SPG lube rolled into a ball................Bob
