Does anyone know how to do any stock carving, or more like engraving. I have a nice stock that someone barely etched some very nice scroll type paterns on and I would like to go ahead and carve it, I don't want to do the raised typed but just more the engraved into the wood type. Brian Turner did an Early Lancaster I have and it is beautiful. This stock is an excellent piece of wood and if I could finish what someone started I think it would look super. I don't even know how to get started though! Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Thank ye kindly,
Irish

Have a look at the gunbuilding tutorial that is at the top of this forum.

Incised carving is the hardest kind. All you need is a good V-chisel, to know how to sharpen it, good light, steady hands, a way to hold the gun so you can walk around it, and lots of practice.
