Bless my parents, in their zeal to protect themselves from a major disaster saved a large can sealed with wax full of strike-anywhere matches, and a strike pad just in case. I opened the can, and really liked the sulfur smell. :youcrazy:

This might have been the result of a government program/warning.
Cleaning out my parents home, I too, found a small suitcase packed full of boxed, strike anywhere matches and hugh bars of Octogon soap.
Beware darkness and dirt?!? :hmm:

the extra long matches sold at fireplace or wood stove shops are strike anywhere (or the ones I have stocked up and sealed w/foil and zip baqs are) but they must be kept absolutely dry.
beware striking them on yer trouser leg/back of leg the tip can pop off and may stick after lit. :shocked2:

I just went into the kitchen and pulled out a 10pk of Diamond Strike anywhere matches. 32 count per box. Says on each box that they are made in the U.S.A. since 1881. I buy them at our local grocery store. I don't have a problem buying them. I use them with my civil war reenacting mostly. I carry a pack in my triox stove when I need to make a cup of coffee out in the woods.

Just checked a box of Diamond matches in the kitchen, use to they said strike anywhere, Now it's strike on BOX matches. the strike anywhere matches had a yellow tip with a red body, now they just have a red body and no yellow tip :td: . So no more strike anywhere for Diamond Matches seems like .

You can still get Diamond barn burners. They're not quite as good as they used to be but still better than the standard match. My local hardware store sells 3 boxes of 250 matches for a little over $3.00. Bought some a few months ago. The strike pad on those new boxes are not good though.

Up here in the great white north Eddy Redbirds still rule. We used to load 'em in our air rifle and fire at a brick wall. The practically explode on impact. :rotf:

The Penley's work great!!!The Diamond's are not worth the powder to blow them to hell. They wear out the striker on the box and your left with half a box of unusable matches because they won't strike on anything.Probably the government trying to ban them and being very successful. Just like everything else they do to help us. FRJ

When I was in highschool(67-70) I stopped at our local country store and asked for some matches. Miss Hester informed me that a penny box is now a nickel and a nickel box is now a dime.
