My student, Gage, finished 3 knives this summer and rough forged 2 more. He only had two days each week in the forge, due to football practice schedule. He has really improved his hammering skills.

Not too shabby for a 13 year old.
Thanks for looking,
Mike

Those are really nice for any age but seeing that he is only 13 and has only been forging for a short while they are awsome!

This is his second summer as my student. Last year he spent 3 days a week in my forge and learned basic blacksmithing skills. He competed one small knife then.

Gage sure has talent and does realy nice work. Its nice to see the younger generation taking an interest.

Thanks for all the input. I passed along all of your kind words.
He is saving every penny that passes his way to equip his own forge. Hopefully he will have have a small setup in an old out building at home by Christmas.
Thanks again for your encouragement,
Mike

We need far more people like yourself to teach the younger generation the old skills. I am a substitute teacher who often teaches shop classes and there are very few students today truely learning skills. So many just go through the motion to get out of "regular classes". Keep on teaching and he will continue to progress. :hmm:

Stuart, I am amazed at Gages' progress. His attention to details and patience is awesome.

Wow thats great !! Its good to see a younger person take a liking to something like this and to work with their hands will hopefully keep em out of trouble too

He must have one heck of teacher!
thats some real nice work he's turning out. and wish him the best on attaining his own setup! at 13 he's gonna be one heck of a blacksmith real early. :hatsoff:
