Wondering what is the earlist known swamped barrel and style.
 
Here in America a lot of the rifles I see are staight barrles
 
As Mike said, swamped or flared barrels are indeed very ancient,at least in the Germanic areas where rifles were more common than fowling type guns as were very common in France and[url] England.In[/url] America the swamped barrels began to be superseded by straight barrels about 1810-1820 although many gunsmiths continued to use the older swamped barrels.

Thank you for information. I like the looks of swamped barrles. Think it gives a stlyish look of it's own.
 
The "look" of a swamped barrel is VERY cool indeed, but the feel, balance, and handling of a long gun with one is VERY awesome.

The proverbial "win-win" situation.
