There are collectors who pay serious money for miniatures. I remember many years ago examining a Mauser rifle made by Monte Mandarino. It was maybe 8" long, fully functional.
Yeah, years ago I wrote a short story using miniature androids. My protagonist field stripped a miniature 98 Mauser. Never did anything with the story, but I had fun writing it.
 
Don't NEED ONE, just curious. Smaller caliber, lighter barrel?? Curiosity killed the cat?? ;) ;)
Ya asked swampers, and of course the swamped barrel is lighter than it's straight octagon brother,
The biggest deal is the balance.
A lighter barrel can be made and as available in tapered too.
But the swamper is a bit wider at the breech end than the muzzle after milling, it's hard to explain the feel of swamped barrel, but when you handle one it's a "Oh wow" kind of moment,,
