Hello ,

I recently came across this beautiful, custom built swivel breech flintlock at a local gunshop. There are no markings on it at all. I have been told by that the rifled barrel is .48 caliber and the smoothbore is .56 caliber. It does not appear to have been fired, if it has it wasn't very often. There is some play between the stock and barrels where they swivel. I took three locks off to look for markings, but didn't find any. There are two nuts to tighten the gun up, but I'm out of my element and be decided to leave it for dinner who knows better.
I am out of my wheelhouse with this one. If anyone has any input on who might have made it, or when it would be appreciated.

I would also love any input on what it may be be worth. And be feel free to shoot me an offer on it. I will do my best to answer any questions you have.

Thanks,

Nice looking rifle. Value may be difficult to judge from photos alone but the following are a few thoughts. Is it signed? The inletting and carving appear to be quite well done. The wood is rather plain however. The release mechanism looks like a David Price style as opposed to a Leonard Day. Unfinished kits run $1,500 to $3,000.

Hi,
First, it is not a Dave Price action. The photo below shows a Price swivel action. His are oval in cross section with a unique lock plate.

If it has 2 nuts it may be somebody's version of Dave Water's design. The first nut should really be just a washer that prevents the second or locking nut from loosening when the barrels are swiveled. The adjustment is tricky. You have to tighten the lock nut down to pull the action together but not so tight that it cannot turn or friction with the swivel nut loosens the lock nut. The gun looks pretty well made. The carving is OK but not great. The barrels are double inlet, which means there are two barrel channels with wood between. On Price's action, the barrels are soldered together with no web of wood between, which makes for a slimmer rifle. I think $2500-$3000 would be a fair price
