A few weeks ago, I picked up this old kit Hawken from a pawn shop. Seeing what others have done to theirs, I decided to refinish mine. I stripped the walnut stock and used Tru Oil on it. I blackened the brass parts to look like iron. The barrel was already aged in appearance so I left it as is. I used naval jelly on the lock and hammer to give it an aged look to match the barrel. Enjoy!

Thanks much fellas! I hope to pop off a few shots this weekend. As for flintlocks, I will someday have a proper one.

I used Birchwood Casey Perma Blue. I either dipped a part in for a few seconds or took a soaked patch and placed it on the part for a few seconds depending on the size of the part. It gives the brass a shiny grayish black look like steel.
