I bought a T/C .45 and it came with buck horn/post sights that I replaced with factory adjustable rear and globe front sights. The gun is shooting 3-4" high @75 yards with PRB and I cant adjust the rear sight down any more, it bottoms out. Front sight is .380 off the barrel and I havent found any Hawken style front sights any taller. I might be able to grind off some of the adjust screw threads enough to get on center. Anyone every run into this problem? And please dont tell me to put the buck horn sights back on. Thanks, Mike

push down on the rear sight with the screw all the way in. if it moves any shortenin' the screw & the little post it goes into may help. if not then ya can either file the notch deeper or get a taller front sight. track of the wolf catalogs have full-size pix so ya can compare before ya buy. luck & have a good'en, bubba. another option may be to adjust yer load to move point of impact.

Rather than start a new thread, I have a very old CVA Hawken, it has an modern type adjustable rear sight that needs to be replaced. Ive not tried to drift it off and measure the dovetail. Would like to get something a bit more appropriate for a halfstock Hawken type gun. Any recomendations?

track of the wolf & likely others have more traditional lookin' sights to fit most European dovetails.

and globe front sights.
To my knowledge the factory didn't use a front globe sight.
Noe Lyman makes their #17 front globe in several different hights' maybe that's what ya have?

You are correct, my mistake. Its a factory post with a bead tip. I took the sight apart today and I can gain some by grinding the mounting screw head off a few thousandths or grinding the sight bracket. Plan on doing some ciphering for a bit before I do anything I'll regret later. Thanks, Mike

Does anyone make a front bead .400 tall?

if yer havin' to grind the screwheads that mount the sight to the barrel it's likely had the sight off & been remounted with improper ones. t/c used a fillisterhead screw with a thin head that barely cleared the counterbore so maybe all ya need are the correct screws. there's a feller goes by ramblinman211 sells them on e-bay. he's also a member here but don't recall exactly how his name is here.

I found front sights at Midway and Brownells that will work. Thanks to all who replied. Mike

I had a similar problem when I was breaking in my T/C Hawken. I had the sight screwed all the way down and still shot high. Make sure less powder if you haven't all ready. I went from shooting high with 80gr to dead center with 68-70gr.

I have several TC Hawken rifles, and they have different sights, from different time periods. Unless you have a front and rear, that match what came on a rifle as a set, I doubt if you will be able to adjust it to POA.
