How well does it work? Any problems caused by the hooked breech?

Trying to decide whether to get the fiber optic sites or go with a tang site. Any help will be appreciated.

The tang sight goes on the tang, so no interference with the hooked breech. It does increase sight radius by about 50%, and sighting by way of rear aperture is easier, IMO.

The TC "hunting tang sight" is the better sight that TC made, but now discontinued. Its a smaller sight than the Lyman, but not click adjustable.

I HAVE a spare to fit the Hawken, Renegade, and White Mountain Carbine....

No probs whatsoever with tang sights in my experience with quite a few different guns.

I'll say this about the fiber optic sights though. They're too danged bright in direct sunlight, and they don't glow at all in low light when you need the help most. Then there's the effect of various solvents and chemicals- You eventually lose the glow. I tried FO's on a number of guns, but finally took them off all but one. I'll replace them soon on that gun too, but meanwhile they don't glow at all.

the t/c tang sight with a fiber-optic front sight is excellent in my experience. it is a bit harder to adjust than the lyman but is solid & works well.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that TC discontinued their sight.

Recently I spotted this one from Pedersoli. Looks for all the world like the same sight with a little different (and maybe better) arrangement for adjustment, but I haven't yet tried to confirm that the mounting screws are spaced right for TC. I'm hopeful because spacing is more or less standard, but can't guarantee.

Next time I need another "TC" tang sight, you can bet I'll be tracking details from Pedersoli.

I've got that combination on my T/C Cherokee; the Hunting Tang Sight and the fiber-optic front. Works well in early morning, but the addition of a Williams "Twilight" aperture helps too. That has a small ring of brass which your eye picks up when it's too dark to make out the black ghost-ring image of the rear peep.

Here's my Cherokee with those sights, but I have now moved the Twilight Peep to the tang sight of the .50 Hawken that I just got (w/ the 32" long 1-66" round-ball barrel), as I will be selling off the .45 Cherokee soon...

Hope these images help:

FYI, unless you can find one from a seller on this site or at a gun show for < $75, those out-of-production T/C Hunting Tang Sights are now selling (not just listing...) for > $125 on auction sites these days.

I got really lucky last week and found a new/old stock tang sight at a BP specialty shop marked "$55.00" (10-year old sticker, from the date code), but the seller demanded that I pay "$70.00" these days -- I put up a stink (just for show) but gladly paid that price.

The TC peep is very good, but adjustments are not as easy as the Lyman 57. Both work very well for me with a fiber optic front sight on my deer rifles. I like the Lyman globe front sight on target rifles.

If your concerned with the fact that the rear sight is on the tang and the barrel has a loose hooked breech that locates in the tang, don't worry.

Unless your hooked breech is looser than 98 percent of the guns I've seen, the fit is close enough to assure good accuracy, even if the barrel has been removed and reinstalled a lot of times.

The biggest problem with the TC Tang sight is TC doesn't offer them anymore. :(

Thanks for all the information. Yeah, I was a little concerned about the sight on the tang and not fixed to the barrel. Hope I can find a sight now.

Bill, there are two on Flea Bay right now! One the bid is at $79 and the other is for a Seneca and it is Buy It Now for $225-230! FYI!

Another option. Sights are Redfield Olympics. Have same set up on a TC Seneca. Both have Douglas premium barrels and have been used for target shooting extensively. Sights might be worth more than the rifles these days.
