ROFL What a joke... What 'theory' are you referring to? If you were intelligent you would understand that business is business the world over and it is even worse over seas. Sorry, but your BS doesn't apply here Mr. Knowitall...

Throttle back on the personal comments there smart guy. I do not know it all but I do know this. I also know how to make a point without personal insults. I also have FIFTY Italian replica revolvers and have been through every one of them. This nonsensical "theory" you have has no basis in reality. If it did, you would be providing evidence, not insults.

I've also been self employed for 18yrs, thank you very much.

How about the 2 of you guys throttle back and treat each other how you would want to be treated? Disagree respectfully?

rhart, you have been here just a couple of months. Don't blow your acct up so soon.

GYJ...you've been around a few years. Don't take the bait from a new guy. Maybe he's a troll or maybe not but relax, it's just the internet.
It’s like watching a John Wayn/Maureen O’Hara movie… i hope the thread closes before they get to the love scenes.

WRT quality variations from seller to seller, I’ve compared guns bought from Cabelas or LGS with those sold by Walmart. Sellers like that absolutely set a price point for manufacturers to meet and we know how they meet the numbers. So it goes.

Well here is a fact .. Taylor’s maintains a full blown group of gunsmiths and if you do encounter a problem they send a return label and turn the corrected firearm around in 48 hours period.
I will pay that extra $20 for peace of mind
I am not saying any other seller of the import BP guns do not ..as I do not know ..
These are mechanical things folks being made for a price point from designs 175 years old in plants who knows with what technology and what level of armorer’s skill sets ..
To expect a silk purse from a sow’s ear is pure folly
So you pays your money and take your chances and smile at the good and calmly work thru the bad as none of them are perfect

If you read what he said right off the bat he tried to make a belittling remark. That is considered rudeness.

Actually, if I wanted to be "belittling" or "condescending" I'd of said " You obviously have never handled a . . . "

In either case though, I think I got my answer. I was just trying to give you the perspective of someone that tunes these revolvers on a daily basis.

I'm probably about to grab my pair of Grade B Midway guns and go shoot today. It's raining, it will keep the yeeyee truck guys away who fire 4 rounds per hour and take up 20 benches 😃

I mean when you step back and take a look, arguing about Italian reproduction cap and ballers is senseless. We, ourselves, may be passionate about them but most are sold to people who see them as paperwork free mail order range blasters. Pietta knows 50% of their guns will see 18 rounds and quietly rust away in a basement.

As for me, as far as varying degrees of QC and some importers paying for better guns, I believe it. It's Product. I believe it goes by individual model. Pietta puts less fitting into the cheaper stuff and offers a "budget" line, like all the plastic gripped 51 Navies and brassers

Uberti I think tends to be more consistent but they also make the "higher end" stuff . We're not going to see "budget Walkers" nor does Uberti make fantasy guns or brassers

Either way, Pietta and Uberti execs probably laugh at us . Silly Americans fighting over reproduction cap and ballers......Just take the things and go shoot , don't let it become an obsession

I cannot speak to the way an Italian factory does it but I do know how American companies will fill orders. If Home Depot, Menards etc orders a large # of products, they get a special run made. Doors, windows, faucets etc. get some lesser quality components in them. This is a known fact in the construction business and has been for some time. Your Moen faucet is not the same from HD as it is from the supply house.

Honestly it's very common.....even for dumb stuff like the Fruit of the Loom hoodie sweatshirt I bought at a Dollar General vs one I bought at a store like Target .

Both newer, the DG one is flimsier and not made as well. But it was probably cheaper

People are like "manufacturers won't put their brand name on a 2nd line of junk products " oh yes they will

Also, Taurus was at one time owned by S&W and was to be the 'budget " line of S&W. But it never came about . Taurus basically owns the fact that they make the "okayest" guns for the cheapest price. And it will probably work 75% of the time, 100% of the time .

The 2 newest Piettas I bought sold this fact to me, with the Italian gun makers. No way would anyone accept these for $350+ or would a seller with a "rep" with the CAS crowd even touch these. But Midway probably sells lots of the "good enuff " brassers plus guys like me that use them as range blasters gobble them up. I'm not getting my Ubertis possibly wet in the rain , but I'm bored and need some entertainment on my day off......so it's the Pietta 2nd Quality range blasters time to shine 😃

Link? Easy enough.

It would be a hard sell to convince me Pietta didn't slap these together for MidWay to sell as "budget" guns and they were assembled with parts that were blemished, unfit for places like Taylor's, or with brass frames with manufacturing defects. They are "Factory Seconds " sold at lower cost.
Not saying they don't and don't see how my posts would conflict with this. Especially since we're discussing Uberti, not Pietta. If you order enough guns, you can get anything made. Whatever special run a large retailer 'may' order from a manufacturer is tangential to the discussion. We're talking about the run-of-the-mill guns produced and shipped to distributors every day and the myth that some importers get better quality guns than others.

Dude you are so wrong. QA officers usually have their own punches. They don't punch the product then let it be produced.
What are you talking about???

I'm sorry that you feel being rude makes you a superior person. I have and do own many well working tuned revolvers and my better functioning pieces are Piettas. Sorry for upsetting you but for me it's true. So please keep your lacking of social graces to yourself. I'm sure that when you wrote it you felt like such a legend in your own mind. Sadly you just sounded like Alzheimer Joe Biden.
No, he just works on these guns for a living. Sorry that his real world experience conflicts with your fantasy.

Yeah but you're talking about individual runs of guns. Not something that applies universally to all of an importer's guns, which is the topic the discussion. The question pertains to all the guns sold by Taylor's versus those from Cimarron, Dixie Gun Works, Stoeger, etc.. That difference simply does not exist. I've illustrated exactly where this myth comes from. It's outlined perfectly in Mike's post in the link. Which is comical because the idea that Taylor's gets better guns has absolutely no basis in reality.

1st Gen Colts are up to WW2, 2nd after WW2, then 3rd are the ones made in Italy and assembled here marked Colt; by the guy who runs Henry Rifles, BTW.
Not to nit-pick, but I think you've kind of blended the generations of the 1873 cartridge models with the colt black powder C&B models here. IIRC, 1st gen C&B black powder models ended somewhere around 1873 (last year 1851 models produced I believe), 2nd gen Colt C&B black powder models picked back up around 1970 and 3rd gen Colt C&B black powder models around 1980.

1st model 1873 cartridge models began in 1873 to 1941; 2nd gen M1873 1956 - 1974; 3rd gen M1873 1976 to present.

Myth or not I still believe Cimarron rejects guns that other sellers accept or don't even check , so Uberti makes sure they send the "cream of the crop" to Cimarron.
I realize this is an older post, but it 'hits the nail on the head' as far as demonstrating how a customer can leverage their power against a supplier to force the supplier to provide them with higher quality product than their competition may receive (without paying extra for it through a special agreement).

In my former company we had many customers in several market segments. There was at least one customer in each of the higher quality market segments that were major 'complainers' with the result that we were forced to perform special inspections on already inspected product prior to sending it to them (sent them the 'cream of the crop' as it were). We also took pictures of packaging and truckloads prior to shipping to prove to customers and to the shipping companies that we weren't to blame for issues on that end. All this to keep the costs down of servicing these 'complainers' - flying field service reps out to examine the 'inferior' products (hotels, meals, customer entertainment, etc.), costs of returning goods, costs of dispositioning returned goods, damaged reputation, etc. etc.), additional inspections to satisfy the customer, flying sales reps out to suck up to the customers after the fact, etc.. The higher ups felt it was cheaper to invest more into inspecting the product upfront before sending it to the customers to prevent complaints.

Cimarron, Taylor's et al could easily accomplish a similar effect by making life miserable for the Italian companies (if they aren't already).

Hi Rex,
All of the Pietta made guns come out of the factory with the same/similar quality, with the exception of 4-click Colt-style vs. 3-clickTransfer Bar. Ours is the 4-click Colt Style. Beyond that, it is the level of service offered from each company. Most companies receive the factory guns and turn around and ship them out, without checking the guns. Then, once the sale is complete, the service ends. Not the case here. Thank you for asking!

I asked EMF why I should pay more for a gun from them. The above is their email response to me. I will gladly do the same to Taylor or Cimarron if you would like but I'm pretty sure their answer is going to be pretty much the same as EMF's was.

Just another FYI. I sent emails to both Taylor&Co. and Cimarron asking them the same thing I ask EMF. I'll post here what I get back unless this thread gets closed before I heard back from them.

For my $ it all depends on customer service and tolerances, for example which maker has cylinders that are all bored the same or parts that are hardened properly and which retailer will have the parts and service I depend on. Both manufacturers have problems occasionally and looks and finish don.t mean anything if you can't shoot it right out of the box. As far as finish goes, at least with my personal guns, Uberti wins the race but they aren't perfect which makes me wonder how many original Colt's had quality issues, I'm sure they did and how easy was it, back then to get service and repairs! I love this stuff!

The best thing about the whole issue is that everybody's guns are better. Both Uberti and Pietta have made great strides in improving their products over the last 10-20yrs. Not only are they made better but the finishes are much improved and usually their customer service is very good. I've only had an issue with one of them and it was a Cimarron that they promptly replaced. I don't hesitate to buy from any of the importers and choose based on the configuration and price. Because some importers have some configurations the others don't.

Here's an FYI.

Lolololo.....hahahaha. I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing because that is the dumbest thing I've heard someone do in while. I needed the laugh.
