TC's early owner's manual has these .45cal and .50cal Double Ball loads listed, I've tried them, they print about an inch apart:

I've never tried it but I might this weekend just for kicks. 460 grains of roundball won't be much worse than shooting my 450 grain conicals.

Hey Roundball was that 1" at 100 yrds.? Also just the regular charge or are they suggesting 100 grns. only? My eyes hurt from trying to read that. :hatsoff:

:hatsoff: Thanks! Wonder how it will do in a 1:66"? :hmm:

Or as the old saying goes, "Loaded for Bear"

That would be a dandy load in the ole 7ga. 170FF and 2000 grains of lead. :shocked2: :shocked2:

OUCH! At both ends! :rotf:

that would blow the elastic out of your underwear! i'll pass on that much pain.

Ive been going on and on about up to 5 balls and up to 500 gr loads not blowing up barrels acordding to a 3 part story in Muz Blast years back about how strong barrels really are and your talking 2 balls??? The old Lyman loading book shows 2 one right behind the other kind of mashed together at 100 yds in 1 pic cutting the wire that rook the pic. Only 2 :rotf: Fred :hatsoff:

This method of loading sure would make my .40 a little more lethal.

Roundball:

That is interesting.

Do you suppose the second ball would have a slightly thinner patch than the first ball so there wouldn't be as much resistance? Or would it really matter.

Also, my T/C is a 1 in 66 twist. Do you see any problems with double balling in this rifle as the article says 1 in 48??

Thanks, snagg

Hey BS I wonder what that ft lbs would be at 50 yds???? :shocked2:

I wouldn't think so...when I tried it I just used two normally patched balls...I have wondered why the patch of the first ball woulkdn;t flare backwards anbd cover up the secoind ball, affect it's flight, etc...but apparently it doesn't.

Don't know why a 1:66" would be any different...it may very well be that when that early 70's owners manual went to print, TC didn't make 1:66" RB barrel yet...dunno...can't hurt a thing in the world to try it though...I've shot a double ball out of my 1:66" when I was too lazy to pull an accidental double ball load...but I didn't think to fire it on paper, just shot it into a dirt bank

Now THAT is an interesting idea...it may just be all the push I need to try a GM .40cal barrel.

How much does a single .40cal ball weigh?

Actually, the trip wire was 7 feet in front of the muzzle.

roundball sorry Im working from notes, I gave up keeping 1000s of books here, put half in storage. Fred :hatsoff: But found that one here God it's old, it also goes on to say "Accuracy at ranges of over 25 yards useally rages from "fairly poor" to "even worse". What I find most intresting is back once upon a time 2 ball shooting was a "ok" thing bet it's not in the new ones, great old page you posted, back then you could use a lot more powder too (maybe not in your book but was being done , then we hit the age of drag everybody to court when we mess up and.....
