I put a post a few days ago about my tc barrel not being accurate 5 shots getting a 7 inch group at 50 yards shooting from bench , So I did the scotch brite trick and diss morning went to shoot it and see if dat helped , my load is 90 grains of ffg , 530 rb , tried a 535 rb but it was to tight , .20 pillow ticking lubed patch , was using .015 , to my suprize I think the scotch brite trick and .020 patchs did the trick ,shooting off the bench at 50 yards I got a 1 3/4 group I was like diss :shocked2: , havnt tried maxi balls yet , got to cold , so any body having accuraty problems do the scotch brite trick it worked .

Unless you are working up a hunting load, I would try backing the powder off a bit. Work down until you find the sweet spot. I would bet that you find better accuracy around 70 grains.

Ya know, that Lava soap idea might not be half bad.
Not sure I'd use it as a lube cause' don't know what would happen when it burns, but it might just work as a lapping/polishing type compound,(?). :hmm:

Next barrel break in I'm using Lava soap for patch lube.

I have used toothpaste as a patch lube for fire lapping a barrel. Works great!

Make sure you use regular toothpaste and not gel. Most gels don't have enough grit in them.

Lava soap may work as well. Will have to try it.

Great that it helped your barrel out. I might suggest you run JB bore shine on occasion to keep the barrel clean as well.

BTW: I hope your cleaning it with solvents and not "Seasoning it".

That's funny, because I use toothpaste to clean the cork on my fly rods. It makes them look like new.

Toothpaste isn't for just teeth. :)

I was washing fire lapping compound off my hands one day and went "Oh duh!". Figured the Lava was worth a try.

Another use for Diatoms I love to tell vegetarians that they are brushing their teeth with the shells of sea creatures. I let them assume that they are killed mercilessly by crest, colegate and aim.

I have found that 0000 steel wool works great smoothing new barrels. I also have used the 0000 steel wool to clean out plastic sabot fouling from barrels. My work boss was complaining about loss of accuracy with his inline rifle. Cleaned the barrel and his group size got very much smaller.
