I just bought a snail style capper (said to fit revolvers), dumped some #11 caps in it, but they don't feed into the jaws very well, certainly not far enough to pull a cap off when overtop a nipple. I'm using it on 1851 models. In your experience do these things commonly need some tweaking, or some trick to getting the caps to slip into the jaws?

Mate I have found this type of capper a real asset. I give it a small shake when I depress the catch, mine works fine, occasionally I get a cap come out miss aligned, but is saves a bunch of grief capping my colts.

cheers

When you depress the lever on the side a cap should appear, this you slip over the cone and pull straight away from the side, maybe a little forward. Mike Beliveau demonstrates it well on his youtube videos, particularly with the '51s and '61s.

at times they do need to be adjusted.

I have several of the none snail type and like them. Bought a snail type last year and I have problems with it as well.
