On another forum they were discussing American Pioneer Powder Co. powder a.k.a. Clean Shot. They claimed it had a short shelf life and was subject to moisture problems.
I remembered I had a open pound of the Clean Shot FFg which was about six years old, on the shelf. I figured this was a good time to test the moose milk of Stumpkillers reciepe and the powder.
First I discovered I was out of ball. So I had to make up about 100 .50 caliber .490 round ball. After that I put a target up at 35 yards and got out my shooting sticks. I had everything I needed to shoot. (Other then swabbing material)
I was using a Tradition's Pioneer Hawkins caplock with 1:48 twist. I fired 25 shots without swabbing into this target, after that I fired 10 more into another couple of soda cans. Stumpkiller's moose milk was flawless. The 6 year old Clean Shot fired perfect without a hangfire or misfire. I was shooting 80 grains of it with my handcasted round ball made from a LEE mold.
I was pleased with the way the powder shot, the way the rifle grouped, and the way the powder cleaned up was excellent. My one low shot was the final 25th shot. I actually think had this been a real turkey it might have been in trouble. ::
