The Best Muzzleloading Movies

Only the handguns were muzzleloaders, the Sharps rifle, not so much.

The Crossing, Chato's Land, are two of my favorites. The ones previously mentioned are also good.

We have to remember that they make movies to entertain the public. We also have to remember that nowadays 95% of the public is mostly ignorant and don't know the difference and most don't care. Thank the Lord there are people like us.

If memory serves me right, there was a Daniel Boone TV episode where he too shoots an Indian with his ram rod.

Shooting an Indian with a ram rod was in the very very old B&W Last of the Mohicans.

Robert Taylor made the movie, "Westward the Women" . I think the ladies in the wagons used muzzle loaders.Unfortunately Taylor used a 6 shooter that hadn't been developed yet. I haven't seen it in years but I think it was supposed to be set in the 1850s.

I am still enamored with Treasure Island. I re-read the book every 5 or 6 years and loved the movie with Newton as Long John. Also another Stevenson book, Kidnapped. and the movie.

When my kids were growing up, I would read a chapter a day from the books to them and then we would have a party and watch the movie together. We did many of the Disney movies that way.

Haven't had a chance to watch it but there is a movie called "field of lost shoes" I believe for free on Vudu right now about a military academy of boys who were forced to fight in the civil war. Not sure what battle or what not but it said based on a true story I believe. If anyone is interested in watching it. I haven't yet cause my wife and kids don't get near as excited about that stuff as I do

That would have been the Battle of New Market in Virginia 1864. The cadets from Virginia Military Institute took up arms and marched to join the battle. But I don’t think they actually fought. Still very brave for 14-15 year old kids.

That looked like a lot of fun! You got the thousand yard stare down pretty well, but you needed blood all over you and your shirt for proper effect at the end!

If I would have thought of that about the shirt...I would have made that happen.

I'm pretty sure the cadets did fight. 10 (out of 257)were lost that day. Plus the 45 wounded.

At one time I thought that Mountain Men was until I started watching Black Powder Maniac.

Patriot, authentic right down to the type face of the newspaper. One of my favorites.
LOTM, not so authentic but great fun. Hawks,knives and trade guns. You got to love it.
Josey Wales, some errors but still a great depiction of c&b revolvers. Also one of the best westerns ever.

For about a century back at the beginning of guns arrow were the preferred ammunition

As I recall it was Hugh Glass whod been mauled, De Capprio in his role "The Revenant" portrayed him.

Smith too, about 1827 or 8. It was prior to his first trip to California.
He lost part of his ear and a section of scalp.
The only known drawing of Smith done after he quit SJS but had yet to form his Santa Fe expedition. He is stylishly dressed but hair is pulled forward to cover up his scar.

Disney was oft pretty sloppy with his books. Kidnapped was one of his best, very close to the book

Broken Chain, Waterloo, The Horatio Hornblowr series, The Duelists, The Buccaneer, and Chasing the Deer, which is so obscure I'd be shocked if any has heard of it.
Plus pretty much all the movies mentioned in the previous posts. Saw at least one that interested me.
