Made some bread and butter pickles. First time I tried making pickles and is very happy with the results. Very satisfying when you grow, harvest and process what you grow.

This year I grew daikon radishes and purple top beets here at the farm. I had 5 beds, each one 5 feet wide and 75 feet long. I planted 2 each and one mixed bed. The daikons were for soil improvement and the beets for the deer. Turns out the deer like both. I harvested a couple bushels of daikons. Some I blanched and froze, some I took home for the wife, and I started 2 half gallon jars fermenting. One jar I added some ground up dried jalapeños. They should be done in another week, but I forgot my pH gage. I like testing ferments to make sure they're safe. They need a pH under 4. 3.5 is better.

Yesterday afternoon after looking at the forecast decided it was time to harvest the last of the kale & chard. We filled up 3 - 2 gal bags for the refrigerator . Then a neighbor came over and we filled a large bag for her. The roots and frames that supported the plastic for the last few weeks were removed. Today it's snowing, done just in time. Now the waiting to start next years plants a few months down the line.

Ticks slowed down here..
But was bad.

Hate those things.. I got the tick stuff on the dogs.

I sprayed everything in the begging of the season with permethrin. I have not found any on me.

The dog.
I throw a few ticks out the window on the way home.
Today just one tick was crawling on her.

The cold and snow don't kill them ticks i think though. They just go inactive.

Real cold weather does kill them , but it has to stay cold for a number of days. Below 10 deg . And I thought I was done outside. Looked at the mushroom logs and harvested some Shiitake & Nameko . Enough for a few omelettes. DONE.
