There is a very set dogma here and shame on ANYONE who violates that dogma. You must be a true believer.

You MUST only shoot the Round Ball, magic pill of death.

You MUST only use Black Powder (no subs).

You MUST never exceed 70 to 80 grains of powder, "you simply don't need to"

CVA/Traditions are trash (but there is a strong segment that calls BS. I call them the Reformist movement)

There are a few more, but minor compared to these. 100's of years, unimpeded by progress. I always get a laugh.

Couldnt help but think of the Ten commandments when I read this post, guess it kinda works since he was in the mountain men also :D.

Being a hunter first, l have always had the mentality of "match your rig to da gig" no matter what it is. I like them all but choose to use whatever is most practical for each situation. Occasionally I will color outside the lines but for more/less testing reasons.

There are fanboy's in just about everything. Dealing with them usually is not a problem until they become rude, inconsiderate, jerks that like to lurk in the background and wait for someone to pounce upon. Then it becomes a problem.

Heaven forbid anyone not use what they use or like. And of course, we all know that every hunting situation and that all hunting terrain is the same as theirs, the weather conditions are always the same as theirs and they hunt the same size game.

FWIW, I use both conical and round ball. Also have a Thompson Center, CVA, Traditions, and Lyman of different calibers. Some prefer conical, some likes RB. Primarily use BP but one ML is also set up for substitutes. Have yet to venture into the flintlock arena but I have given it some thought. However, if it were to change my mentality into what some, not all, of the fanboy purist have, then I don't want it.

I always liken it to group looking out a window. Everyone is in a slightly different position and will have a different perspective than everyone else. Those sitting may not see things just in front and below the window, those standing back a little from the window may not see what’s going on in the sky, those to the right……

A small group, inside a room looking out the same window at the same time, looking at the same event, and none will have the same perspective nor see the same thing.

A small group, on an Internet forum…….
"Everyone is in a slightly different position"

There are so many different reasons that people shoot our beloved ML.

Long range, like Idaho Ron
Chunk gun, as it is done at Friendship
Rifle matches done at clubs across the country
Shotguns for hunting and clay pigeons
Hunting for deer and larger game
Historical reenacting
And others I am sure I am not thinking of....

There are different loading, hardware and methods that work better for different disciplines and according to different individuals.

I hope you find the ones that work best for you.
