"I know he's out a range, I just don't like 'em!"
That movie is a lot a fun. One a my favorites. That and Jeremiah Johnson. I liked Ol' Grizz.

The funny thing is there is a lot of mistakes in the movie, no big deal, it's still a wonderful flick. I went through it with a fine tooth DVD comb one time, you know stop, pause, magnify, repeat, and in all the rifles they show all are either Lancaster or plains leman type rifles. No Hawkens whatsoever. The other thing of note is the use of ball bags, hard and soft, they hang them aroung there neck.

I wish that it was HD as it is a fuzzy picture, that way I could even see more finer details.

We can only hope someone would make another Mountain Man flick as good as that one.

Apparently they changed the title before they released it? At the end of the credits, it says...

Special thanks to the State of Wyoming...for permission to use portions of National Forest land in filming "Last of the Mountain Men."

At the start henry shoots and starts bill riding hard, but theres no smoke from henrys rifle, as the blackfeet were riding to the crow camp after bill you see logs that was cut with a chainsaw, I do like bill blasting henry with the flash from the touchhole.

I never could really get into the movie...........I kept thinking when the blackfeet had Heston was going to yell "Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty apes".......or challange them to a chariot race.

You wanna seea a bad mountain man film ...then watch Sacred Ground starring Jack Elam! I watch it anyhoo! :snore: :hmm:

I just got done watching a VHS of the Mountain Men, there was smoke from henrys rifle at the begining and the credits said: Special thanks to the State of Wyoming...for permission to use portions of National Forest land in filming "The Mountain Men."

So the DVD and VHS are slightly different.

The original title was "the last of the Mountain men" based on the book of the same title. My original VHS has this in the credits. Hestons' son was the one who brought the project to his fathers attention and got him to go along with it. When I was at the premier of this movie at the the La Junta Rendezvous in 1980...it was also called by this title but they later said it was changed.

That was great fun when the screen blew down and Heston said he could part the RED sea but not stop God from parting the screen. Two or so days later...we, the Redezvous ended up at the drive-in Theater for the Official showing. Wonder what ever happended to the Pop Corn girl who took off with the Cat Soldiers??? :rotf: :rotf: :nono:

I read somewhere that Brian Keiths reaction to the pan flash was unintentional and that he really wasn't expecting to get spattered with the pan charge but he carried it off so well that they left it in the movie.
One of my favorite Keith lines was "Madder than turpentine wildcats"
I still use that one occasionally.

Mine is VHS, an ancient original copy. It has the original longer title in the end credits.

I just can't see Robert Redford grubbing around the Snake River Valley or the Wind River Mtns. He always had that red hair fixed up so nice. H*** he looked more like a lost surfer with a rifle. :hmm:

My fav in Jeremiah is..
"I packed me a Squaw fer ten yers pilgrim, meanest gripe that ever balled fer beads"
And
"A woman's breast is teh hardest rock that the almighty ever laid on this earth and I can find no sign on it!"

I know the guy that made the pipe in Mountain men, used in the scene smoking at the vous with Medicine wolf, he still lives in Kalispell. And the guy that made Brian Kieth's outfit is in Hamilton ( both MT). He got the jacket back from Kieth after the Movie, I tried it on... didn't fit... Still smelled of smoke.
