Can't complain enough about these guys. I recently sold a scottish musket to a fellow in Nova Scotia that I got from T.R.S.. It was unused and in new condition. Well when he got it the forend was all split. He disassymbled it to try and glue it and the barrel channel and lock area were filled with accuglass. Talk about crappy craftsmanship. The weird thing is the box was not damaged in shipping. I am wondering if altitude change or humidity change could do that to a stock, especially one held together with accuglass? Anyway I am replacing the stock for him, but wanted to warn anyone ordering through TRS to check the guts of the gun before accepting the workmanship. :results:

Pillowtick; I have been repairing and refinishing furniture for over 30 years and yes, humidity changes will make wood do strange things. Even with the accuglass inside, not all of the inside of the rifle is covered with something and that exposed area will change with the weather and try to change everything else with it. If it wants to twist and meets too much resistance, it wil split. Am I explaining this ok? The outside of your rifles will have some oil or varnish finish but the inside, like under barrel and lock are just cut out and may have some oil on them but probably not. Doesn't hurt to put a little on every now and then just to keep splits from happening. :m2c:

Sooner or later I'm going to write about a lock I've got on order.

Why don't ya just us ya got it now? I know there slow, but maybe by the time you get it, some of us may be in a nursing home with access to a computer! :haha: :hmm:

Because I would like to write something positive and I would also like to hear TRS side of things before posting

Just to say SOMETHING positive about TRS, I ordered a Snaphaunce lock of theirs, and it's very nice. I have to admit though that they had it up on Ebay, and I KNEW that they'd have to send it to me within a reasonable time or risk the wrath of the Ebay Daemons. It certainly was listed from their shop though, since the seller was from the same little town in Oklahoma... what would be the chances of that otherwise?

Anyway, I had emailed the fellows at TRS sometime before, and they said that they were in the process of making up a few and would have them ready in a few weeks. Being rather suspicious of that sort of thing, I waited, but when it popped up on Ebay with a "Buy it Now" sign, for their usual asking price, I just bit and ordered it.

It did take it's time in wending it's way to me, but it's worth the wait... though I didn't have to wait more than a few weeks.

So there ARE some good stories from TRS... the lock is as good as a lock made from cast pieces is liable to be.

Cheers,

Gordon

Thats easy Jess is the absolute authorty on Harper's Ferry rifles. If you want to make an 100% PC rifle, any of the variants, to enclude the Mariweather full stock. He is your man.

I must correct my previous post. My order was placed on Feb 26 with The Rifle Shoppe. For some reason I was thinking I placed this order in Dec but I was wrong.

I got a great set of lock castings from them for a Dutch flintlock circa 1720-1740. Very fine quality and it came quickly. I made sure they had them IN STOCK. I would not order anything not in stock. They are not excellent communicators, either by phone or email, so the best bet is to get them on the line eventually and find out what's IN STOCK AND READY TO SHIP. They have great stuff, the best slection in the US of parts molded from originals, but over-reached, perhaps, by trying to offer so many parts sets and not being near ready to do business in the 21st century mode of websites, emails, cell phones, and overnight delivery.

Well I've mailed Moderator and I'd like to have this subject back under flintlocks. If nobodys got any problems thats where I will pick up just after the Pedersoli discussion.

I moved this topic because it focusses on "The Rifle Shoppe", not flintlock weapons, per se.
