There were no BP "hunters" at my range just guys getting ready for deer season with AR-15's with 30 round clips. They would go thru 2-3 clips in full auto. Have no idea what they were gonna hunt like that! Panzer tanks maybe?

A friendly approach is always better than a blunt come on. I've even approached shooters with, "mind if I make a suggestion". Most thank me for the help; a few sneer.

There is also the guy that knows it all and doesn't need advice of any kind. Thankfully this type is in the minority. "Cast not thy pearls....".

Swinging on the castle curtains, sword fighting on the furniture...

Don't mind chewing the rag but I'll leave the towel-snapping to you my friend.

And don't ever put lawn grass in an empty green bean can that mom gave ya to play Popeye with! :( :barf:

I call them the "good enough" crowd. It is a very large group around here. They show up the weekend before season opens, fire a few shots and if it hits within about a foot of the aiming point, its good enough.

I'm afraid there are quite a few folks in the "good enough" crowd. Many will not even check their guns assuming that all is good since it was "on" last year.

That was me growing up!

I can remember countless things my mother told me that I shouldn't do because this or that will happen. But I was smarter than that, and this is a newer generation! What could she possibly know about today?!?!

After a few years of living with consequences and seeing it for myself I finally wisened up a bit and listen. Doesn't mean I always do it, but I certainly prefer to learn from someone else's mistake these days than my own!

I also learned that my sense of logic is more than willing to let me down!

It's funny how my parents got smarter as I got older.

There is a phenomenon that appears to be growing...

The more narrow the area of expertise, the more prone is that person to think they are expert at all things.

While one may be friendly with a newbie, I have seen too many actually dangerous people at a range who simply assumed that what looks to be simple, is actually simple. The fellow pouring powder down his barrel while counting, and thinking that is accurate and safe is one fellow that comes to mind. He was a know-it-all mentality, and of an older generation. He was always "right" and could not stand even a friendly suggestion.

I have been told that "Generation Y" is very much prone to "learn while doing" without much if any pre-instruction... reading an insturction book is NOT something they are going to do.... so much so that when they delve into something like firearms, modern or otherwise, they have little concept of the dangerous situations that they create.

I just joined a new shooting club that has a fairly decent rural range. I went there last Saturday and there wasn't anyone else using it but while I was walking up to pin my target I noticed that about 10 yards down range there were streaks of sod torn up all over the place with some of them going left and right of the range area. I can't even imagine what these people were doing but they definitly were not shooting very well. They had to be laying on their belly to even make streaks that long.

I watched a couple at the range firing their pistol for the first time. With each shot the barrel got higher in the air, By the 4th shot he was shooting straight up. I went to the range officer and said either they were leaving or I was. I still see holes in the roof over the shooting stations.

I think it's kinda fun to quietly shoot a smaller hundred yard five shot group standing with my 40 cal squirrel rifle than the guys with plastic and aluminum ultra zombie rifles can from the bench, bipod and scope......
