Thanks guys  but whats wrong with cabelas??????

wow over 50 views and only 3 of you felt inclined to give your .02  please speak up

I build my own M/L's. I have not purchased an across-the-counter muzzle loader in years. I get the stock wood for free and the rest I can keep less than $400 to $450. The reason I did not chime in is because most people don't want to go through that kind of work. I prefer buying them this way because I can purchase all American made components. If you are a do-it-your-selfer, you may want to consider that.

Nothing wrong with Cabellas examples, they shoot well and look the part for the most part. I prefer Lyman and have owned the GPR and the Trade rifle, both in .54, and what I've learned is that they do best with Goex and the addition of a fiber wad.

That rifle would be sold right now if I had that xtra cash :hmm: Oh well prolly best I learn more and find that perfect rifle fore I get a nother one!!!!!!! :bull: Nahhh I am just broke :)

I got my Old CVA now and I intend to learn with it then drop a alot on a brand new one and I really like the look of Cabelas and Traditions!Wished there were shoots around here :(

Hawken hunter great Idea but If I got the stuff to build a Hawken Knowing me I would probably end up with a fine stapler or waffel iron! I aint to good with that kinda stuff!

If a kit would interest you, the Lyman GPR can be had for WELL under $500 and makes for a great rifle.

Having bought all the wat around this idea (the Lyman GPR kit) I finally did it. 1)I am prouder of it then any other I own and 2)It shoots better then any other I own.
For the money (kits run about 300 to 350 you can NOT beat it for a shooter OR a hunter!

GPR without a doubt. My son and I built one for his use, and it is a shooter. The build wasnt at all difficult, just took a bit of time to get the furniture looking the way it should.
