Thompson Center Hawkens in action

I didn’t find any recent threads that showed what I wanted to see. So, would you share some pictures of your Thompson Center in action? It doesn’t matter if it’s a Hawken or Renegade or whatever. Here are the best I have of mine at present.

That crow was shot at 40 yards. Those are two groups and point of aim was center of each group. Good gun, bad eyes.

When my old eyes get dry or tired I can get the same effect. I end up with two front sights shifting in and out of focus. Sometimes two distinct groups.

Me too. And I don't even have to take a drink!

My TC New Englander was shooting high anyway, so I glued a fiber optic rod on top of the front sight. The rear is a TC factory fiber optic anyway so green rear red front. I can see the sights! And POI came down. Win win!

First I filed a small flat on the rod. Alcohol on front sight and JB weld instant glue on sight. After it set up so it would stay I glued it on the sides also. Gave it 2 days then put about 25 balls down range and 4 heavier charges. I know it will break off if I smack it hard , so I'm trying not to be a klutz for a change. So far so good.

I found a TC Hawken(?) looks like the one in the first pic by Banjoman, it say 50 cal on the barrel, and is in very nice shape. The LGS is asking $299. Is that a fair price?

Put a light down the barrel. If it's not rusty or looking like a stove pipe that's a good price. Make sure the lock works right too. Look for sharp rifling.

Like gunpa said, if everything looks good, I’d go for it. I like mine. It shoots better than I can.

Got to go out and make some smoke this past Saturday. Took my T/C .54 Hawken (from 1981), my Pedersoli .54 Blue Ridge (from 2019), my Pedersoli .45 Pennsylvania Dixie (from 1998), and my CVA .45 Kentucky pistol (from 1983). Here is a photo of the T/C in action at the 50 yard range.

What did you use for glue? I need to do the same thing with my front sight as well.

I filed a flat on top of my sight used a 1.5 mm fiber. I used JB Weld to attach it and cleaned it up with a small triangular file to get sight picture "perfect".

I bought a "used" TC Renegade in 50 caliber that was like new. I remodeled it as shown in the attached photos. To me, it appears something like a trade rifle of the era would look. It groups very well and I have taken 4 deer with it since I changed the appearance of it. It is browned, has a poured nose cap, and tack decoration that fits my taste. I added a CVA peep sight since I absolutely cannot use open sights any more.

Very nice! I’ve not seen a Renegade done like that before.
