Anyone have the Wm Malcolm 6 power on one.I have been debating mounting a scope .Rather mount a period type scope than a modern one on the ole girl . Thanks from KY Bill

I like the looks of a rifle with that type scope but know nothing about them. Welcome to the forum if not already done. Larry

I like the looks also just cant see a modern scope on a Hawken , My eyes are not what they use to be for the open sights either!

From pictures I've seen of those early style scopes, they appear to have fairly small tubes. IMHO that would make them of little use in low-light situations.

The Green Mountain drop-in barrel for my TC Hawken came with day-glo sights. I left the front orange sight in place, removed the rear green sight, and installed a tang mounted peep. With the reticle removed, it has about a 3/16" hole. Not that great for competition target accuracy, but plenty good for deer, even in fairly low light situations. Your mileage may vary.

They work great but it is a very expensive set up compared to other scopes. It has modern optics so it is as good as some of the new scopes but it is not a Nikon or Leupold. If ya want it get!

I have a .54 cal. Hawkens Carbine made by InvestArms and I had mounted a Leatherwood 3x Wm Malcolm style scope on it:

So far it is working great. This will be one of my hunting guns and I have used it in the woods on many occasions. But this next season will be the first time with the new scope. My friend did the mounting work and if you can see he left the open sights in place, just in case anything goes wrong in the field.

It looks like the scope is mounted pretty high on your rifle. Is you face still on the stock when you shoot it?

Welcome to the forum.

The 36 barrel on my switch barrel/switch lock TC Hawken wears a Navy Arms 4X 32.5" brass scope. Yes it is a smaller tube, and its no Leupold, but it is still way, way better than open sights for these old eyes.

That is a good looking weapon for these ole eyes and as good of reference as a man could want !
I have a farm in Northern KY and hunt with Black powder only . I avidly hunt and fish . Need to get a good turkey gun .

Thanks for the comments gents. Some folks don't like them or their adjustable mounting system, but it does work fine, looks OK and once set up on a barrel holds true well. May not be HC, but it sure helps old eyes aim small again. I don't think the Navy Arms scopes are available anymore, but Dixie Gun Works at least used to sell a similar model for $260 including mounts, and a half length model for a little less.

BTW, the Lyman tang vernier and globe front sights work pretty good too on the 50 cal barrel.
