My first attempt at a more complicated build, as my first was a Kibler and that doesn't take much skill. This is a Pecatonica fullstock Hawken 54. Am concerned if this is aligned right for the breech plug. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I built one of theirs last year. Same thing. I had to fool with the fit and finish just a bit, with files, but it came out fine in the end. That's for the hooked breech joint.
As far as drilling the hole, yes its right. Made me nervous, but the breech plug is not flat faced. Its drilled hollow. Those are the ones they Xray for safety. Was very happy after I looked it all over with a bore scope. You can run a stiff wire down the barrel and into the plug, then mark the outside depth with pencil. You will sleep better before drilling it.

Be very cautious getting the trigger guard in place. That was the hardest part of the build.

Thanks Ames, Ya I know they are center drilled a ways, I actually did run a depth check and it is real close. According to the TOW Hawken diagram it is spot on. That being said its still a one shot to get it right and I usually need at least two.

Your barrel and tang look high to me, it also looks like you are near the bottom of the flat with the bottom of your pan. I would think you need to drop the barrel to get the tang down flush with the wood.

I wouldn't use wire to check bore depth. I use wooden dowels. Insert until it touches the plug then mark the muzzle end.
