TOW Mink Oil Question

Does one have to wipe between shots usings this lube? I use Lehigh Valley now and dont have to,I am wanting to try the TOW mink oil as I am about out of LV

I don't have to wipe often with mink oil in my rifles. Although, I use Old Zip most of the time.

I believe that someone who swabs between shots does it by choice, because they want a consistent bore condition.

Shooting sabots is the only time you HAVE to swab between shots. I'm sure nobody on this forum are shooting those.

I believe swabbing between shots is needed for the ultimate accuracy. I get flyers if I don't do it.

So many praise Dutch's system, and he says to absolutely swab between shots.

I use Mink Oil. Do I need to swab between shots? As far as loading the next shot? No. I've taken 25 shots with no swabbing. Were the 25 shots accurate? No.

I bet it depends a lot on how tight your patch/ball combo fits the barrel, humidity, the "heat" of your load, the specific powder you're using, how much lube you use, and more. Heck, there are folks that could write whole chapters on it, I'm sure.

I don't really gob it on my patches but it's not a light coat either. And I don't shoot patch/ball combos tight enough to require more than a firm push on the short starter. And the humidity around here is thick enough to drink.
Sum total, I shoot till my arms start to waver, call it 20 shot strings, and only swab afterward when I plant my hiney for a rest.

One of the best I've seen for NOT needing to swab.

It always depends on the day and weather, but I find I need to swab after a handfull of shots using tallow.

I never used the stuff but a freind of mine realy likes the stuff and he dont clean very often

Dexter, I use it for hunting, but thats about it, works great in the freezing weather. At the range I use spit, no need to wipe between shots. Summer hunting, like for woodchucks, I use a water/ Balistol mix, because it may be in there for a while and doesn't rot the bore like spit would.
