Redoing Trad Trappers Pistol, should I leave the iron parts [barrel & ect} in white or rust them ? Will be using brass furnature. Thanks in advance. I have a william parker in the white, are they just polished, or is there some type of finish on them? What ever I do to furnature, should I do same to lock and hammer / drum ?

I rust blued my Trapper and did the wood a dark red/brown. Nice contrast between the blue, polished brass and dark wood. I don't know how it would look with browned metal and all that brass.

I've been thinking about building another and leaving it in the white on dark brown wood this time. It's a gorgeous look.

If you decided to do the lock also, let me know how it turns out for you. I've been worried about the fake case colors causing issues with a rust finish so I left mine alone.

:hmm: From what I have observed from my Parker the finish seems to be just left in the white. I had started to brown the gun but it never got off the ground---but the urge is still there---when I shoot the gun in competition I have to blacken the entire barrel top with soot from an acetylene lamp.

Mule, you old rascal, try using a candle to be PC with your blackening! :haha:

And at the risk of playing the part of the village-idiot, try having it hot dipped galvanized! :rotf: :rotf:

I have not doing anything with my barrel yet, still white. I did by that Perma blue paste from Track of the wolfe. Is it OK if i just degrease the barrel, and put the paste on a couple of times? And is it any way to darkened the brass parts? Make it look older. I did by the gun as a make it your self kit.

 Boy the PC police is now riding the range in West Texas. Sorry but that acetylene lamp has been in the family for more years than my old Polish Great grandfather (Pennsylvania Coal Miner) who bought it from his second cousin---yea many years ago. Still works better than my newer ones. :surrender:

You can use Perma Blue to blue the metal, but it won't last very long. Few of the cold blues do. Wheeler Engineering's Premier Gun Blue is about the only one that is really durable. Well, so is Brownell's Oxphoblue, but it never seems to look very good. It's no big deal to reblue it later if the cold blue wears off or doesn't look right to you. Go for it! :)

BTW, Perma Blue will also darken your brass. Tinker around with it a bit till till you get it the color you want.

Thanks Plink. I didnt know that it will darkn the brass to. Thats great , i would it to look older.
