Is it very heavy? Sycamore around here looks a lot like maple but is as light as poplar and very brittle

American Sycamore is also quite corrosive. Very common here in Maryland where we have a lot of Sycamore near swampy areas. Hunters like the large trees for deer stands, since they often border areas of swamp where deer hide..., then the hunter finds out the climbing rungs they screwed into the tree, have rusted away inside the tree, or the permanent deer stand suddenly, painfully, isn't so permanent. :shocked2: :nono:

I’ve never been in a tree stand. Working in a trauma unit I see several tree stand guys every fall. When making camp in the woods I watch for widow makers but won’t camp near a sycamore at all, I assume the whole tree is a widow maker.
