So my Traditions crockett kit arrived. I did a quick test fit and was surprised. Everything fits almost perfectly. I was expecting a little work to do. Realistically I could put it together and it would look pretty good. My plan is to add a patchbox and the pipe tubes came in black steel. I will remove that and make it blue or brown. Not sure which color I am going with yet. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Feel free to chime in if you see something I'm doing wrong. Tonight will be cleaning up the wood shavings from the machining process.

Haha back to the original subject... Looks like a nice little kit, always been interested in a .32 muzzleloader! Powder sipper for sure.

Ok so I have been looking over photos comparing things and I can't get anything clear. On the 2 photos attached where the arrows point. Should that be removed. To me both don't look right. Need opinions.

I'm looking forward to seeing your rifle come together. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

Nice. I didn't know that Gander Mt. was still in business.
They are not. It was picked up from receivership by that guy who had the lawsuit over the big US Flag being too close to a highway. He owns Camping World and renamed them "Gander Outdoors and Gander RV". He kept the store here open originally then closed it (without notice) as it did not sell RV's. There were initially 126 stores that he whittled down to 70. Then, if not profitable enough, he further reduced the number to 37(?) -- only ones that sell RV's.
Less than desirable things he did -- In spite of the US flag lawsuit, he said anyone who supported DJT is NOT welcome in his stores. He promised veteran discounts but the check out clerks refused to give them, and he promised to honor Gander gift cards but only did so for a very short time and quit doing so without notice. My USMC son lost out on $150 of gift cards----
Glad you got the gun...but they will never see a penny from me

I didnt get the gun from Gander. It's just a work mat I've had for years. Sorry to hear your son was screwed out of his 150. I had something similar happen to me with a life membership in the North American Fishing Association. They sold ownership and didn't honor anything.

If this kit is anything like the Frontier flintlock I helped my grandson put together, you're looking at maybe a weekends worth of work to get it assembled. Not much of a challenge with these kits. Not much quality either. If you just want a quick gun, these kits fit the bill. If you want quality and or a challenge, go elsewhere.

I agree not a lot of a challenge but I find it a fun build so far and as far as quality it don't have anything negative to say as of yet. So far for the price point I think it's hard to beat. Especially if you look at it as a learning tool.

I didnt get a lot done today on the build. I fixed the end with the brass and wood fitment. Used rasps, files and sandpaper. It will be hit a few more times with sand paper as I progress in the build. I installed the barrel tendon. The tendon took a bunch of work to fit. I filed the tendon until I could force it in with a punch. I did a dry fit of everything. No major issues. Need to do some wood removal to get everything to look better. I almost forgot the trigger was rough so i cleaned and removed some burs and it made a huge difference. I head to NYC for a day.

An update on the crockett. So yesterday. I did some sanding to get things looking better. I sanded off the warnings verbiage on the side of the barrel. I also found it to look horrible when manufacturers put that on guns. I under stand why, just don't like it. I had my wife draw a scene on the buttstock. The pipes for the ramrod was painted black. Didnt like it so I sanded it off and i will blue it. My plan is to carve it in. So that's my next step. It maybe a few until my next update.

Took the day off from wood carving. Had to go to the VA today. So I already had enough frustration for the day. I did blue the barrel and other items. Tomorrow I will hit it with steel wool again to lighten it up some. The brass piece there was me just testing what brass looks like when hit with bluing.
