Traditions Crockett rifle

I got to look at one today. The ramrod is metal, but when you point the barrel down towards the floor the ram rod falls out. Also the ramrod is about 5 inches longer than the barrel. I passed on this. Kind of disappointing.

Mine is metal but the correct length. .32 is small, metal wont break. I like it. Shooting these small balls and fouling etc. can/will result in broken wooden ramrods (at least for me). You can easily get a wood replacement, no reason to condemn the rifle, ?? Many like it.

I am on my second one now, I stupidly sold the first one I had. Mine had a metal ramrod too but it also was the correct length. Didn't like the color and sound it made so I simply made a hickory one to replace it. Sounds like it was obstructed and not fully seating which could be the reason it was falling out also. Probably an easy fix and maybe some fodder to get the price down a little. Mine is a good shooting little gun as are most of them that I have heard or read about. I have killed a sack full of squirrels with it and 20 grains of fffg behind a pillow ticked .310 ball. I use a .40 flintlock now for squirrels but will never get rid of this Crockett.

I'm not condemning the rifle series just that one. If I find one that doesn't have those issues I might buy it.

I also made a full length brass ramrod for it and tapped both ends 10-32 because I was scared of breaking the wooden one. It adds a little weight to the gun but it won't break or bend. The stock aluminum one was hollow and bad to bend if you took just a little too much bite on it. Im a little ham handed at times. The problem that I found when I was looking to replace my Crockett is that people wanted full price for a used one. I just bit the bullet and bought new. I hope you find one without any issues, they are fun to shoot

I owned one for many years and loved it. It was a while back and they came with a wood rod which I used some and never broke it. I made another rod for it that I used in the woods and replaced the wood rod back on for display. To say it was accurate is the understatement of the year!

As said above the used ones seem to come dear (pricey) when they come up. Was something blocking the rod, or did somebody just make an extra-long rod for some reason? I would not pass on something I wanted because of an easily replaceable, some might say consumable, part like the ram rod. Unless the price was unrealistic. What were they asking?

The. Prise is 550.00 and they are firm on the price. It is a new rifle.

Sounds like the ramrod retaining spring was either missing or installed wrong.

I hope you can work something out. I've found the Crockett to be wonderfully accurate and of course economical to shoot. Never heard of the ramrod problem with that model but it should be easy to correct.

On a new rifle that with tax is close to 600.00. I don't feel I should have to fix anything. Sorry that just the way I feel. It was the only one they had.

I agree. I’d have passed on that one also. There’s no shortage of these. Sounds like that was a replacement ramrod for some reason.

Dang, 600 for a new one. I almost balked at 450 when I bought mine. Glad I didn't though. I would put a wanted add on the classifieds here, you never know who may have something that they are willing to part with.

Cherokees sell on here regularly at that price. No doubt you will find the one you are looking for.

I love my .32 Crocket, I keep a hickory rod in the gun , at the range I use a range rod, Bruce

I love my Crockett. Bought it from a guy on this forum a few years ago and It’l shoot better than I am able. Mine came with the copper colored ramrod and I haven’t had anything bad to say about it yet. If it’s that loose just glue a thin strip of leather in the ramrod groove to hold it tight. A loose ramrod wouldn’t keep me from buying this rifle again.

The ramrod doesn't even fit the thimbles. I mean you can actually wabble the ramrod around when installed . Either the thimbles are the wrong ones or the ramrod or both. For the price of 550.00 plus tax of 6%. I will passing this one. I'm a little concerned about buying one on line now.

I would pass on it too. Find a good one and make your own range rod with a bore protector. Metal will wear the crown eventually. You are buying new, so get new.
