A while back, I said I had a new Tradition's Kentucky Pistol. Some of you asked for a range report and here it is. Unfortunately I did not get to shoot it too much, it was 103 degrees and my 11 years old son was with me and was getting too warm so we packed it in after a while. The pistol appeared to like a charge between 25 and 30 grains of Pyrodex Select. Only problem is that it shot about 12-14 inches high, I had to aim at the bottom of the target frame to get it to be close to the bulls eys. It was a little bit to one side or the other but was probably due to me having to aim so low and estimate the center of the bull. Any suggestions on how to get it to shoot lower (much lower) without putting a one inch front sight on it? :rotf: Any help would be appreciated. Harold

I have one also. Yes, it shot high. You don't need to add a one inch front sight. I picked up a sight from Dixie Gun Works that was about 1/8"-3/16" taller. That brought the shots down.

Hey Pete I appreciate the information, do you happen to know the size of the dovetail of the pistol?

The dovetail is about 5/16". The one on the sight was a tad larger; I had to break out the jeweler's files to hand fit it - a few minutes work. It went in tight, as it should.
I bought the EP1011 which is a 3/8" base and is 3/8" tall. They have a taller sight, same base but 9/32" tall - EP0512.

:hatsoff: Thanks Pete, I'll order one of those in the morning. Again I appreciate you help. Harold

I worked on it for a while before I figured that is what happened, I do the same thing.....but I'll get the taller one and that way I'll have enough to file off.....I appreciate you redoing your figures and telling me...Harold

When I started shooting mine it shot about 8" low at 25 yards. The back sight had a real small groove in it so I opened it up a little and then filed the front sight down. I'm shootin a bullseye one out of three shots now up to 50 yards. You may get good results by filing the groove in the rear sight deeper, that is slightly easier than replacing the front sight. Also, my sights were pretty loose and needed to be peened in. I found an empty shell casing from a .45 and I measured that at about 28 grains so thats my load. Just for giggles I loaded up with 45 grains and aimed high at our Bear silhouette at 100 yards. PING! Don't know where I hit it, but I hit it!

Mine shoots to point of aim at 25yds now. HAd to file the front sight a little though. As far a loads, I now use 40grs fff goex. And the gun loves that load. As far as hotter loads that have been asked about, yes, i've played with it some. And my loads exceeded anything in any manual or book i've seen. Not saying go be stupid like i was before i knew better. But I dont worry as much as some i've talked to. Accuracy will tell you where you need to be, and accuracy went downhill with mine after 50 grs, and went right out the window when i passed 60grs.
