It is a .50 cal...bore looks clean with no rust. As I said, I am not interested in how accurate historically it is I liked how it looks and for the price (less than 100.00)I couldn't pass it up.

For that price, I would have snatched it up too.

They are an ok gun, especially for that price, so it should do well for you.

God bless

Me too,I have owned a lot of production guns and shot some of my best scores with them,as far as historicaly correct goes it is realy hard to findin any production longrifles as the straight barrel does most of them in right off the bat, but they can still be great shooters and good hunting guns, the largest Deer I ever took fell to a Navy arms "Kentucky" which is shaped very much like the gun on this thread but with a 35"barrel.I think many production buttstocks suffer from not having a wide enough plank to lay the stock out properly.

I was just at one of our local gunshops this past weekend and they had a used one on the rack for $509.00 Not much lower than new. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal.

At the price you paid you couldn't go wrong. Even though it's not hc/pc I've always liked the looks of it.Traditions is one of the few production gun mfg. still offering a
'starter " gun. Outside of the CVA Bobcat and the Traditions Panther it's hard to find a used production gun for under $200.00. Enjoy it!

+1 for walnut.

If you are happy with the rifle and it is a good shooter, then I would take that to the bank. Not every rifle needs to be historically accurate. And indeed no gun should be advertised as historically accurate if in fact it isn't.

I have the same gun. Bought it prolly 6 or 7 years ago, I like it for a cheap, good shooting gun! The only thing I had to do in the last year was replace the frizzen...I shoot at least 25-30 shots every weekend from april through dec and in 6 or 7 years have cut through the hardening...Traditions uses surface hardening of thier frizzens about a 16th to a 8th thick...once you cut through that, no sparky, spark! The load mine likes is 60ga of 3f under a .15patch and a .490 RB. It shoots better then I can hold it!

Nice rifle for the price. You'll get some real enjoyment out of shooting it.

Don't worry about it not being historically correct and just have fun with it. It's a shame Traditions claims it to be historically correct, but there are a lot of custom builders that do the same thing when their guns are not.
