I just picked up a used one, .50 with a 1-66" twist mint barrel. I'm too embarrassed to mention the price, I almost feel guilty. So far I've only shot it at 25 yards but it clover leafs .490 balls with 50 and 70 grains of FFFG.

Does anyone else out there have any experience with this model?

Thanks

Good to hear a positive report based on your experience.

I plan to use it as a trainer/loaner gun provided it wrings out the way I think it will. For what I'd consider an entry level muzzleloader I'm quite impressed. The single trigger has a very acceptable pull, longer ranges next trip out with it.

This rifle is the same as the "Hawken Woodsman" which makes for Ardesa-Traditions. The only difference is that the model "Springfield" does not have the hair trigger, and bridel and fly. It is a cheap and good muzzleloader. You can adjust the trigger pull with internal screw through the tumbler. To shoot targets at 50 yards using bullet 0.490",and 0.015 patch to and 50 grains 3FFF (Goex or Swiss Black Powder). For Hunting 80-90 grains of black powder 2FF.

I had one in .54 a few years back. It was very accurate but I didn't shoot it much because the stock was shaped wrong for me and it beat me half to death every time I shot it. Raised a knot on my cheekbone. Sold it to a buddy for the same price I paid. Didn't hurt him to shoot it. :idunno:
If it would have fit me better I would have kept it around. The gun would shoot 5 shots touching at 50 yards. If I woulda kept shooting it I woulda developed a serious flinch tho.
