Hi Folks..
I have an interesting restoration project on the bench at the moment, and have some questions for the Borg!
This is a Percussion Pistol of the Adams type by the Edinburgh gunmaker Alexander Henry (..of Martini - Henry fame)
It is missing the rammer, which should be of the Kerr type, and which I am fabricating at the moment..
I have turned the rammer to fit (.38") and forged the lever from bar stock. The rammer needs a slot cut in it to take the lever and a cross pin to capture the lever in the slot.. The rammer is EN8 so I will heat treat to blue after it is finished. The lever is MS so I will probably case harden it.
The greater challenge is to make a replacement trigger guard!
It has a 1BA threaded hole just forward of the trigger and another unthreaded hole between the trigger and the spring tensioning screw. This looks like it will take a screw from the inside of the frame, as you can get at it from the hammer slot when the hammer is removed..
Has anyone ever tried to make a trigger guard for this type of pistol? I think it should have a fish tail fairing at the back end but I am struggling a bit as to how to reproduce this. I suspect the original was either forged or cast, but this is a bit of challenge to fabricate as a one off! I suspect the 1BA screw thread is integral to the front of the guard and is screwed in when the trigger is removed.. I can't see how you could insert a screw unless you drill a hole in the bottom of the guard!
Any thoughts... I think I am going to have to hack it out from the solid and then rub it until a trigger guard appears!
