I do not try to take trophy deer. This has little to do with my ability to get them or the fact that younger deer do truly taste better.

My reasoning has to do with the fact that I frequently hunt at the invitation of various land owners or rely upon the location information of hunters from the areas where I have moved.

I have moved all over the country with my work and have figured that if I study the local atttudes on game management and offer to assist with the taking of whatever is being thinned at that time and location, then I get to hunt when others are denied. The concepts are very different as to what the goals are, but one concept remains the same. The social dynamic of having a good time and cooperating within the desired goals gets me into the woods with my MLs. I also rarely use anything but an ML because I am perceived as less threatening to the ability of the owner to take better deer. Might not be true, but it creates a novel situation that amuses most land owners and I get a lot more hunting time because of it. Besides, I enjoy it all the more because I am a method hunter.

I have a friend who is tickled at seeing me toting a flintlock rifle; wearing a wool matchcoat with knitted cap and walking into the woods while the rest of them ride in on ATVs with gore-tex cammos and bolt action rifles.

I prefer to scout a well traveled close shot situation while they set up on long open ground to see very far. Oddly enough, we are quite close in what we take out of the woods. Seems to puzzle some, but I figure that you guys understand.
