Let me apologize in advance because I know this sounds a bit vague also hope I'm posting this in the correct forum if there is such for this request. Some years ago I loaned a friend a black powder handbook that I had purchased new sometime in the late 1970s. The book was never returned and my friend has long since moved away. I am trying to locate a copy of this book but unfortunately I can't recall the title or author. What I do recall is that the book had a lot of good traditional muzzle loading information both flint and percussion but the most interesting thing was the paper cover (front/back) had a interesting artists rendition of a period rendezvous depicting target shooting and all that goes on at a rendezvous. Like I said vague but if this sounds remotely familiar to anyone I would appreciate any information such as title, author, year published and where I might look to purchase a replacement. Thanks in advance.

Sam Fadala has written several. One very popular book is the Lyman blackpowder handbook and loading manual 2nd edition. Sam has also recently put out his 5th edition of his black powder manual. Very good information. He's about the best BP writer I have seen and I have a pretty good BP library.

Steele & Harrison had a book with a similar cover. It had alot of old information. haven't seen a copy for some time. You might try the inter library program at your local library, shouldn't be to hard to get your hands on one. Hope that this helps. Harley

Try the "images" section of Google...might get lucky and see a photo of one, and might get more precise info about it

The book you are looking for is the Lyman "Muzzleloaders' Handbook" First Edition. C Kenneth Rammage was the editor for that publication. You are right this is a great book. It contained a lot of information on casting lead bullets that is still useful today. They also published a Loading Manual at the same time. Lot better information than the manual of the similar title published recently.

The powder was DuPont. My hair was still dark.

The cover picture is titled "The Rifle Frolic". A portion of the cover picture is below.

My copy is not for sale!

That is THE definitive answer! I also have this book. A recent good book is Lyman's "Black Powder Handbook & Loading Manual, 2nd edition", but without the art work.

I still have my copy to. I bought that book when I first started out with my Minute Man Rifle kit by Numrich. I had black hair back then too. :haha:

Darned good book! One of the reasons I bought that book was for the cover. Those boys are shootin' a silhouette of George III and his posterior is all shot up. :rotf: Very patriotic cover.

Mike- Thanks a lot. This is the book I've been looking for. With that information, hopefully I will be able to find a copy for sale. Thanks again to all who responded.

Thanks a bunch mykeal for posting the link. Just wanted it for my library, so found and ordered the presentation one signed by the editor for 10 bucks, hard to beat at that price.

Again, thanks, Tan
